Maureen (nee Plotts) was born in Durban, South African in 1946. She attended a Catholic boarding school and from a very young age, displayed her natural ability to lead. She was appointed Head Girl and was the Captain of the Field Hockey team.
After earning a degree in Accounting, Maureen pursued an office career which she truly enjoyed, but in 1977 - when an opportunity to go sailing arose and which was just too good to pass up, she left her home shore with only adventure in her heart. Her travels took her to Antigua in the Caribbean where she met Joe. Both were crew on private yachts and this is where Maureen developed her interest in cooking.
In 1981, they married in Rockport, Maine – and most recently, celebrated their 42nd anniversary, albeit in a hospital room at Candler.
Maureen was passionate about Rotary and in particular, GRSP (Georgia Rotary Student Program), and she was involved with Kids Café. She loved boating, tennis, reading and cooking.
She was a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Savannah Sunrise and served as Club President in 2006 to 2007. She was also Club Secretary for too many years to count – and rarely missed any District Conference meetings. Maureen was the personification of Rotary's motto ... "Service Above Self".
